Some of you may recall last year that our first ROC Pittsburgh member, Estelle Becker, passed away after struggling with health issues. For those who didn’t know Estelle, she was a firecracker who fought tooth and nail to make sure women in our industry were treated better. She was a machine.

After her passage, we decided that the best way to remember Estelle and continue her legacy was to lift up & recognize the women around the country who are currently advancing gender justice in the restaurant industry.

We are incredibly pleased to announce that the first recipient of the Estelle Becker Leadership Award is Marie Billiel. Marie lives in Boston, Massachusetts and has been in the restaurant industry for many years. In the last year alone, she has testified in front of Congress on the issues of sexual harassment in the restaurant industry, was on PBS (yes, that PBS) speaking about the #MeToo movement, and has been all over Boston working on improving the working conditions of women in the restaurant industry.

Congratulations, Marie!
