Today, Tuesday, October 24 is National Food Day 2017.

National Food Day is “a nationwide celebration of healthy, affordable and sustainably produced food and a grassroots campaign for better food policies,” initiated by the Center for Science in the Public Interest (CSPI) in 2011. As we celebrate healthy, affordable, and sustainably produced food, we must also think of a movement that is inclusive of the workers that harvest, process, transport, cook and serve our food.

America’s politics and national discourse today are rife with hateful and discriminatory rhetoric. ROC United is committed toward establishing safer spaces within the restaurant industry, and across the country. We celebrate and appreciate today, and every day, the contributions of ALL restaurant workers, who come from from many different races, ethnicities, national origins, abilities, backgrounds, sexual orientations, and gender identities.

As restaurant owners, workers, and consumers, we respect their dignity, human rights, and contributions to our industry and our nation. #NationalFoodDay2017 #1FairWage.
